Today, AWOLNATION dropped their electrifying new single “Candy Pop,” filled with captivating echoes. The release comes with a visually stunning music video, marking the conclusion of a trilogy directed by Eliot Charof.
The videos for the previously released singles “Freaking Me Out” and “We Are All Insane” prelude the finale in “Candy Pop.”
The video trilogy draws inspiration from vintage movies and dystopian literature, unveiling a surreal realm that blends futuristic and nostalgic elements. Aaron Bruno, the mastermind behind AWOLNATION, describes it as a tale of breaking free from perpetual technological progress, incessant connectivity, and relentless surveillance. According to Bruno, the ultimate adventure lies in “tuning out.”
Bruno describes the new song, “Candy Pop,” as an embodiment of pop music and culture’s seductive allure, while simultaneously highlighting its inherent absurdity.
The song “Candy Pop” will be featured on the upcoming EP titled “Candy Pop,” set for release on November 10, 2023.

AWOLNATION’s Aaron Bruno, expressing himself in the 2018 track “Cannonball,” revealed his tendency to wear his heart on his sleeve. This sentiment resonates with his musical approach, characterized by following his instincts rather than adhering to a predetermined plan. Despite the immense success of his breakout hit “Sail” in 2011, which achieved diamond certification for selling 10 million units worldwide, Bruno chose not to duplicate its formula for continued success. Even though he was initially labeled as “electro-rock,” he ventured into an array of diverse sounds under that genre, producing singles that topped the modern rock radio chart and garnered recognition from fellow artists and his musical influences.
The platinum album Megalithic Symphony (2011) and its follow-up Run (2015) showcased a fusion of dance/electronic and indie rock. Here Come The Runts (2018) and Angel Miners & the Lightning Riders (2020) leaned more towards classic rock influences. Bruno’s recent retro collection, My Echo, My Shadow, My Covers, and Me, highlighted his aptitude for singing songs like Michael Sembello’s “Maniac” and the Alan Parson Project’s “Eye In the Sky”. Released in 2022, the covers album featured an eclectic lineup of musical guests including Beck, Jewel, and Portugal. The Man, Brandon Boyd, and others. Authenticity is key in Bruno’s songwriting and recording, with lyrics reflecting his passion for sincerity and a touch of irony.
He embodies a traditional spirit with a contemporary aura.
