Billy Joel, a revered entertainer and one of the most beloved recording artists of all time, is set to grace the stage for a unique performance at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium on Friday, August 9, 2024. Accompanied by the talented Chris Isaak as a special guest, this extraordinary event marks Billy Joel’s debut in Cardiff and his sole European performance of 2024.

New York’s quintessential son is one of the greatest musicians of our time. Joel’s songs have acted as personal and cultural touchstones for millions of people across five decades. Joel’s string of 33 Top 40 hits, all of which Joel has written himself, began with 1973’s autobiographical ‘Piano Man’. Written while Joel was playing in a Los Angeles lounge. In 2016, the Library of Congress selected ‘Piano Man’ for preservation in the National Recording Registry for its ‘cultural, historic and artistic significance’. The hits have continued for almost five decades, with three of Joel’s Top 40 songs – ‘It’s Still Rock and Roll To Me’, ‘Tell Her About It’ and ‘We Didn’t Start The Fire’ – peaking at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 charts and 23 Grammy nominations awarded to Joel since he signed his first recording contract in 1972.

Joel is one of the most engaging and best-selling live performers of our time, with songs like ‘Uptown Girl’, ‘Just The Way You Are’, ‘The Longest Time’ and ‘Vienna’ – amongst countless others. He began Madison Square Garden’s first-ever music franchise in January 2014 that continues to this day, performing one show at The Garden each month. Joel’s record-breaking residency will end in July 2024, a little more than 10 years after it first began, marking Joel’s 150th lifetime show which have all sold out at the venue. Joel’s MSG shows have redefined the concept of residency; the scope and ambition of Joel’s residency, where he has played once a month at Madison Square Garden, is unprecedented.

Joel’s extensive collection of accolades throughout his career is a testament to the admiration he has garnered from fans, critics, and fellow musicians. Notably, he was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1999 by his idol Ray Charles. Joel has achieved the RIAA’s Diamond Award twice, for his albums “Greatest Hits Volume I & Volume II” and “The Stranger,” both of which sold over 10 million copies. His talent has also earned him six GRAMMY® Awards, including the esteemed Grammy Legend Award. Furthermore, Joel has been inducted into the Songwriter’s Hall of Fame, receiving the prestigious Johnny Mercer Award. His contributions were recognized at the 36th Annual Kennedy Center Honor, where he was inducted by Barack and Michelle Obama. Additionally, he received a TONY AWARD for the Broadway musical “Movin’ Out,” which features his music.

Billy Joel’s concert at Principality Stadium in Cardiff is the exclusive opportunity to witness the renowned artist perform live in Europe next year. This follows his highly successful 2023 UK show at BST Hyde Park, where he received rave reviews from critics, including a glowing 4-star review from The Telegraph, describing his performance as a joyous singalong.

Billy will be joined by special guest Chris Isaak, a renowned singer and actor with a nearly forty-year career. Chris Isaak has achieved Platinum-selling and GRAMMY-nominated status, captivating audiences worldwide with his band Silvertone. With thirteen critically acclaimed studio albums, twelve chart-topping singles, and notable film appearances in movies like The Silence of the Lambs and That Thing You Do!, Isaak’s talent extends beyond music. He has also composed music for various film soundtracks, including Eyes Wide Shut, True Romance, Wild at Heart, and Blue Velvet.
