Glastonbury 2022 Post Punk Spotlight – Dry Cleaning!

Continuing on the Glastonbury 2022 Post Punk spotlight, this time around we have Dry Cleaning.

Formed in 2018 by Flo Shaw (vocals), Lewis Maynard (Bass), Tom Dowse (Guitar) and Nick Buxton (drums). Based in South East London, Dry Cleaning feature spoken word vocals and bass-heavy melodies, which come together to form a rather unique punky funk style.

The group came onto the scene in 2019 with their first EP “Sweet Princess” shortly followed by “Boundary Road Snacks and Drinks” releasing a few months later. A highlight track “Goodnight” features lyrics cut from various YouTube comment sections, darting between different subject matters such as catching the 6:15 Thameslink from Farringdon to Leatherhead and spitting cum onto the carpet of a Travelodge.

Following on in 2020 they signed with record label 4AD and started working on their debut full-length album New Long Leg. Released in April 2021, featuring prodcution from PJ Harvey’s long-time collaborator, John Parish.

My highlight song off New Long Leg has to be “Unsmart Lady”. Full of more cut-up spoken word lyrics, juxtaposing raging riffs, synergising to make a track I can’t get off repeat. The video is not bad either!

Tracks to check out before the festival: Magic of Meghan, Scratchcard Lanyard, Conversation and Tony Speaks!
