Leftfield, Yussef Dayes, and The Blackbyrds will be joining the previously announced Kool and The Gang as headline acts at the Mostly Jazz Funk and Soul Festival scheduled from Friday, July 12 to Sunday, July 14, 2024.

Performers set to appear on the main stages at the Birmingham festival include Mo’Wax and Unkle’s James Lavelle with a DJ set, Mr Scruff, Glasgow’s Mungo’s Hi Fi featuring Marina P, Grammy-nominated James Hunter, groove pioneers Thumpasaurus, vibrant performer Dawn Richard from New Orleans, and Ife Ogunjobi from Ezra Collective.

Established in 1988, Leftfield rose swiftly to prominence as one of the most groundbreaking and influential dance music groups. Their albums Leftism (1995) and Rhythm and Stealth (1999) were both nominated for the Mercury Music Prize, affirming their status as trailblazers in the industry.

Yussef Dayes, a respected multi-instrumentalist, producer, and composer, unveiled his debut solo album “Black Classical Music” last fall. The release quickly garnered attention, leading to two BRIT Award nominations for Best New Artist and Best Alternative Act. Yussef is acclaimed as an electrifying live performer among his peers.

Formed by the renowned Donald Byrd in 1973, The Blackbyrds pioneered the jazz-funk genre. Their notable tracks include Do It Fluid, Walking In Rhythm, Happy Music, and the iconic Rock Creek Park, which have been extensively sampled by artists like De La Soul and Massive Attack. Commemorating their 50th anniversary, the band is currently fronted by original members Keith Killgo and Joe Hall.

Additional performers set to appear at Mostly Jazz comprise Ryan Hope from Gabriels, the versatile musician corto.alto, Bricknasty from Jorja Smith’s label, hip hop group Super Duty Tough Work from Canada, soul group Wonder 45 based in London, Luke Una, along with prominent West Midlands acts Leftfoot (who will have their own stage), Neone The Wonderer, The Atlantic Players, Ella More, Isla Wolfe, and Alex Polack.

They will be joining the previously revealed Sunday headliners Kool and The Gang, as well as DJ Craig Charles and Nubiyan Twist.

“John Fell, the Festival Manager for Mostly Jazz, expressed excitement over the diverse lineup, featuring influential electronic act Leftfield on Friday, BRIT nominated Yussef Dayes on Saturday, and legendary R&B/funk pioneers Kool and The Gang closing the festival on Sunday.”
