The National expressed their excitement about returning to London next summer, a city they’ve always cherished. While Crystal Palace is a new neighborhood for them, it holds significance for the football fans in the band.
The National, a band renowned for their exceptional alternative rock, has produced ten masterful studio albums. Their unique live performances have captivated audiences, evident in their recent sold-out shows at London’s Alexandra Palace. The Guardian describes them as an era-defining band at the height of their talent and with an ever-growing, dedicated fanbase.

The National, formed in New York in 1999, has achieved remarkable success with their last five albums. All of these albums have reached the Top 5 in the UK charts, including Sleep Well Beast, which won a Grammy award and secured the Number 1 spot in 2017. In the US, the band has attained five top 10 albums on The Billboard 200, solidifying their global acclaim. Earlier this year, The National released First Two Pages of Frankenstein, followed by the surprise release of Laugh Track five months later in September. Known for their grand performances and constantly changing setlists, The National’s upcoming show at Crystal Palace Park is highly anticipated in London next summer.
Special guests Unknown Mortal Orchestra will be joining The National. Originally from New Zealand but now based in Portland, this experimental psych-rock band received widespread critical acclaim for their latest album V, released in March of this year. With their rich and sun-bleached sound, they evoke picturesque scenes reminiscent of blue skies, palm trees, and draw inspiration from West Coast AOR, yacht rock, weirdo pop, and Hawaiian Hapa-haole music in their recent work.
Kevin Morby has been added to the lineup for next summer. His latest album, “This Is a Photograph,” released in 2022, was well-received by critics. Influenced by Bob Dylan, Lou Reed, and Nina Simone, Morby’s skillful songwriting is paving the way for him to create a lasting legacy. Another artist joining the event at Crystal Palace Park on Friday, July 5, 2024, is This Is The Kit. Led by Kate Stables, their most recent record, “Careful of Your Keepers,” released in June 2023, offers a collection of daring yet soft folk rock musings with cutting and warm soundscapes.
This Is The Kit said: “Hooray! Over the moon to be hitting some shows again with The National. It’s been too long, lads!!”
Crystal Palace Park in London has a rich history as the city’s first open-air concert venue. Renowned artists like The Rolling Stones, Bob Marley, and Pink Floyd have performed there. In 2023, the park featured an impressive lineup including Iggy Pop, Blondie, The Lumineers, Two Door Cinema Club, and The Wombats as part of Community Festival Presents. Expect more incredible daytime shows to be announced for 2024.
